Stay ahead of the game with augmented intelligence

Enterprises and industries can anticipate issues and make better decisions with proactive analytics enabled by AI, data analytics and machine learning.

I’m sure you’re already familiar with the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Well, now it’s time to introduce you to the new kid on the block ‘Augmented Intelligence’.

Augmented Intelligence uses the knowledge garnered from AI, data analytics and machine learning to supplement human intelligence and enable better correlation among events on the network, user and device behavior. Gartner suggests that “by 2023, 40% of IT teams will use augmented intelligence to automate IT productivity”.  When we look at this information as a collective, it can provide greater insights and help enterprises proactively address potential problems, and enable differentiated digital business processes.

The sum of the parts

Understanding the Quality of Experience (QoE) of its users, and recognizing if a device takes too long to connect to the WLAN, based on continuous analysis of the connection times, gives the network an advantage in identifying an issue and taking action to solve the problem. With augmented intelligence, once the network has identified a problem it can then send a notification to the administrator to indicate if the problem can be automatically fixed.

A network management system that is enhanced with machine learning can analyze network configurations, QoE measurements, and known issues. When that information is correlated with network hardware and software version information the network can then suggest configuration changes and updates. Once approved by the network administrator, the changes can be applied to the network. The goal is for the network to ultimately be able to support digital business processes and services on its own.

A smarter network is a safer network

Minimizing the chances of cyber-attacks is always a high priority. As the number of connected devices expands, keeping the network secure is a real challenge. A device that acts outside of a “reasonable” threshold could signify that it has been hacked. When it comes to connected objects, augmented intelligence can help the network recognize if a device is suspect and automatically disconnect or quarantine it. Disconnecting or quarantining devices is automated to in order to act as quickly as possible to ensure that the network is not compromised.

Taking augmented intelligence into industries

Augmented intelligence provides the information transportation operators need to proactively execute maintenance schedules before major issues arise. In the hospitality industry augmented intelligence can provide the information hoteliers need to make informed decisions, to optimize network usage, and grow their business. In the education sector augmented intelligence can help define benchmarks to make recommendations for improvements. For government agencies information about how citizens move around in the municipality, the routes they take, and where they congregate provides leverage for urban planning. With augmented Intelligence healthcare providers can use the data collected to optimize processes and deliver the best possible patient outcomes.
